Florida Insurance Regulation & the DFS

Start with the structure of Florida insurance regulation, the role of the Department of Financial Services, and when licenses and appointments are required.

Florida insurance work sits inside a regulator-and-market structure. The Department of Financial Services handles licensing and compliance administration, while state statutes define the legal boundaries for agents, customer representatives, and adjusters.

Chapter 626 emphasizes that producers cannot transact insurance without the proper license and, where applicable, a carrier appointment. For cohort participants, that means education, examination, application, background review, and then carrier alignment all matter.

The Pearson VUE handbook adds the operational side: candidates schedule the exam through Pearson VUE, arrive with matching identification, and are tested against a state content outline rather than a single textbook.
